AICC Approves Formation of Political Affairs Committee of Tripura Pradesh Congress

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has approved the formation of the Political Affairs Committee of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee, marking a key organizational move for the party in the state.

According to a press release issued by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on September 22, 2025, the committee has been constituted with immediate effect. Shri Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka has been appointed as the Chairman of the Political Affairs Committee.

The newly formed body comprises several senior leaders and influential figures of the party in Tripura. The members include Shri Asish Kumar Saha, Shri Samir Ranjan Barman, Shri Sudip Roy Barman, Shri Birajit Sinha, Shri Gopal Chandra Roy, Shri Jutarmoi Nath, Shri Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl, Shri Ashok Debbarma, and Shri Manindra Reang.

Other members named are Adv. Pijush Kanti Biswas, Adv. Pritha Deb Paul, Shri Md Badrajaman, Shri Niranjan Das, Shri Sabda Kumar Jamatia, Shri Manoranjan Debnath, Shri Ruhul Amin, Smt. Khumtia Tripura (Debbarma), Smt. Sangita Das, Shri Sushanto Chakravarthy, Shri Bijan Malakar, Shri Rambahadur Reang, Shri Samsung Debbarma, Shri Samitra Biswas, and Shri Christopher Tilak, who also serves as AICC Secretary In-charge.

The press release also confirmed that the heads of all frontal organizations of the Congress party in Tripura will serve as Ex-Officio Members of the Political Affairs Committee.

The reconstitution of this committee is being viewed as a strategic step aimed at strengthening the organizational framework of the Congress in Tripura. By including leaders from different communities, regions, and professional backgrounds, the party is seeking to broaden its outreach and enhance internal coordination ahead of future political challenges and electoral battles.

Political analysts believe that the move reflects AICC’s focus on energizing the party’s state unit and ensuring that experienced as well as grassroots leaders work together in shaping the Congress agenda in Tripura. The inclusion of diverse representatives is expected to help the party in addressing issues of various communities while reinforcing its base across the state.

The Tripura Pradesh Congress has been working on organizational restructuring to prepare for upcoming elections, and the creation of the Political Affairs Committee marks a significant step in that direction.
