Ambassador Ekramy El Zaghat’s, President of the WFDP Call for a Democratic Future: Rejecting Sectarianism in Syria.

Ambassador Ekramy El Zaghat, President of the World Fund for Development and Planning and Official Representative to the United Nations, underscored the necessity of forming a Syrian state grounded in universally accepted democratic principles, devoid of sectarian ideologies in both its structure and essence.

In a statement released today, Monday, the WFDP President highlighted that the envisioned Syria must embody a state of institutions. The Syrian populace will not accept merely a shift from one authoritarian regime to another, even if the new leader hails from a different religious sect. He cautioned against succumbing to biases and partisanship.

El Zaghat further asserted that the Syrian populace must occupy a pivotal role in the political landscape. All Syrians, irrespective of their sectarian affiliations, should engage in the creation of a new Syria founded on principles of participation, pluralism, and democracy. He emphasized the imperative for Arab nations to consolidate their efforts and support the Syrian people and their leadership, ensuring that the political environment is not left vulnerable to extremist sects.

Additionally, El Zaghat commended the Arab initiatives and endeavors to aid Syria and its citizens in the state-building process, expressing hope that Egypt would assume its historical role in regional and international leadership, particularly in addressing the void created by the withdrawal of certain international powers from Syria.

The President of the World Fund for Development and Planning emphasized the significant measures undertaken by the current Syrian government, including diplomatic outreach and the hosting of foreign and Arab delegations, as part of its strategy to establish communication channels with all nations to secure essential political and economic backing for the reconstruction efforts.

Amb.Ekramy urged Arab nations to consolidate their efforts in the reconstruction of Syria, given the persistent attempts by certain powers to hinder this advancement. He appealed to influential nations to address these unlawful practices, which are being executed under the pretext of taking advantage of the circumstances in Syria.
