Traffic Restrictions Planned in Aizawl
Authorities have already begun making traffic arrangements for the proposed visit.
Aizawl Deputy Commissioner Lalhriatpuia has issued an order restricting vehicle parking along the route between Lengpui and the Youth Recreation Centre in the Falkland area of Aizawl on October 5.
Motorists have been asked not to create traffic obstructions along the designated route. The restrictions are intended to facilitate the movement of the Union Home Minister and maintain smooth traffic flow during the visit.
The route is expected to remain under close monitoring as officials prepare for Shah’s movement between different locations.
Petrol Pumps Along Route to Remain Closed
As part of the arrangements, petrol pumps located along the designated route will also remain closed on October 5, officials said.
The measure is included in the arrangements being made for the proposed visit. Authorities have also issued instructions to motorists regarding parking and traffic movement.

Focus on Cooperation Department Projects
Projects under the state Cooperation Department are expected to feature prominently during Shah’s visit.

In April 2023, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several development works worth around ₹2,415 crore in Aizawl. These included a new Assam Rifles battalion headquarters and the foundation stone for the Laldenga Lammual Centre.
During that visit, foundation stones were also laid for four road projects worth around ₹1,200 crore. The projects were presented as measures to improve connectivity and support trade and development in Mizoram.
Major Infrastructure Projects Underway
Several major infrastructure projects have also been highlighted by the Union government in connection with Mizoram’s development.
These include road projects under National Highway 502-A. Packages 1 and 3 have been taken up at a reported cost of ₹2,500 crore.
A four-lane road project on National Highway 6 in Aizawl and Kolasib districts is also under construction. The project has an estimated cost of ₹1,742 crore.
The doubling of the Aizawl-Tuipang National Highway 54 is another major connectivity project. It involves an investment of around ₹1,600 crore.
Railway and Healthcare Infrastructure
Rail connectivity has also received attention in Mizoram’s development plans.
The Bairabi-Sairang Railway project has been completed with an investment of around ₹5,000 crore, according to information highlighted by the Union government.
In the healthcare sector, a 164-bed super-specialty research centre is under construction at an estimated cost of ₹600 crore.
The state has also seen the development of bamboo link roads and the installation of mobile towers aimed at improving connectivity.
These projects form part of wider efforts to improve road, rail, healthcare and digital infrastructure in the northeastern state.

The proposed visit has prompted state authorities to begin preparations well in advance.
Traffic restrictions along the Lengpui-Falkland route are among the first measures announced by the administration. Additional arrangements are expected to be announced once Shah’s detailed schedule is finalised.
