Arunachal Pradesh Communal Clash: 15 Injured, Section 144 Imposed

In a disturbing incident on Saturday night, Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai witnessed a clash between two communities, resulting in injuries to at least 15 individuals. The confrontation, initially sparked by a verbal dispute between youths from different communities, quickly escalated to the use of sharp weapons and firearms.

Injuries Prompt Treatment at Assam Medical College Hospital

All 15 injured individuals have been promptly admitted to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for necessary medical attention. Reports indicate that gunshots were fired during the altercation, intensifying the clash further.

Police Affirm Incident and Implement Control Measures

Namsai police have officially acknowledged the incident, assuring the public that the situation is now under control. To safeguard law and order, authorities have imposed Section 144 of the CrPc (Code of Criminal Procedure) and are implementing various measures to address and diffuse the situation.

Root Cause Investigation Underway

While actively working to investigate the root cause of the clash, police officials are determined to unravel the details surrounding the escalation of tensions between the two communities.

Prohibitory Order Issued by District Administration

Responding to the gravity of the situation, the Namsai District administration has issued a prohibitory order. The clash involved All Tai Khamti Singpho Youths and Adivasi Youths of Namsai, posing a serious threat to law and order.

Section 144 Imposed to Control the Volatility

Considering the volatile situation, the Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate of Namsai, in exercising powers under Section 144 Cr.PC, has imposed restrictions. These include prohibiting gatherings of more than four individuals at a particular place at a time, stretching from 2nd Mile, Namsai, to APIL Colony, Namsai. The order also bans the carrying of lethal weapons such as guns, dao, bows and arrows, and lathis.

Advisory for Pilgrims Due to Unrest

The unrest in Namsai has prompted the Tinsukia district administration to issue an advisory for pilgrims intending to travel to Parshuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh. In response to information from the Namsai District Administration, pilgrims are advised to steer clear of the Kakopathar-Dirak Gate route.

For the time being, alternative routes through Doomdooma-Rupai Siding-Talap-Sunpura or Doomdooma-Rupai Siding-Talap-Chapakhowa-Shantipur Gate-Roing are strongly recommended. This advisory aims to ensure the safety of pilgrims and prevent any potential escalation of tensions in the region.
