ASSAM: 15-Year-Old Student Missing; Rs. 1 Lakh Reward Announced

GUWAHATI: Sondeepon Tanti, also known as Shaan, a 15-year-old student of class nine from Tinsukia district in upper Assam, has been reported missing since last Friday. The family has announced a reward of Rs. 1 lakh for any information leading to his whereabouts.

Human trafficking remains a significant concern in various districts of Assam, particularly in tea garden areas. Tinsukia, bordering Myanmar and Arunachal Pradesh, is one such district.

Shaan, a resident of Natun Line at Daidam Tea Estate under the jurisdiction of the Doomdooma police station, went missing. The village is located 12 kilometers south of Doomdooma police station, 20 kilometers from Tinsukia police headquarters, and 520 kilometers from the state capital, Dispur.

“A First Information Report was registered on March 30th, and SI Labhita Das is currently investigating the case. We are leaving no stone unturned to trace Sondeepon,” said Manoranjan Saikia, Officer-in-Charge, to Borok Times.

Meanwhile, Shaan’s parents have fallen ill following this unfortunate incident. In a video, they are seen pleading for their child to contact them and return home.

It’s worth noting that a girl from the same police station went missing on October 24th last year and remains untraceable.

Reports indicate that hundreds of minors have been taken to nearby Arunachal Pradesh and forced into slave labor.
