Assam BJP Launches BTC Poll Campaign with Massive Show of Strength

Assam BJP BTC polls campaign

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam has formally launched its campaign for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Election 2025. The event on September 2 drew massive crowds as party leaders arrived in Kokrajhar to file nominations. Supporters thronged the venue, waving party flags and chanting slogans, turning the nomination process into a show of strength.

Assam minister Pijush Hazarika expressed confidence in the party’s chances. He said the enthusiastic turnout was proof of the people’s faith in the BJP. “The nomination filing is not just a formality. It is a celebration of democracy and the people’s support for development and peace,” Hazarika said.

The BTC polls are expected to be a key political battle, shaping the future of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The BJP’s campaign launch highlights the party’s determination to secure another term in the council.

Nomination Filing Turns into Political Rally

The nomination filing day became a political spectacle in Kokrajhar. Party leaders, including senior ministers and local representatives, arrived in large processions. Thousands of supporters lined the streets to greet them, showcasing the BJP’s organizational strength.

Hazarika emphasized that the party is committed to development in BTR, pointing to projects completed during the current administration. “The BJP has brought roads, schools, and healthcare services to this region. Our work speaks for itself,” he stated.

The minister also lauded the peace efforts under the Bodo Peace Accord of 2020, which ended decades of insurgency in the region. He said the BJP would continue to honor its commitments under the accord, ensuring stability and growth in Bodoland.

High-Stakes BTC Elections

The BTC election is scheduled later this year and is seen as a test of BJP’s popularity in the northeast. The party came to power in BTC in 2020 in alliance with the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), marking a political shift in the Bodo heartland.

This election will determine whether the BJP can consolidate its position in BTR, a region that has historically been politically volatile. Observers believe that a strong BJP showing will strengthen its prospects ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly polls.

The opposition parties, including the Congress and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), are also preparing to mount a challenge. However, the BJP’s strong grassroots network and alliance with UPPL give it a strategic advantage.

BTR’s Political and Developmental Landscape

The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), spread over four districts—Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri—has been a focal point of Assam’s political narrative. The signing of the peace accord brought hopes of progress, and the current BTC administration has been working on infrastructure, education, and employment initiatives.

The BJP has also focused on welfare schemes, including housing and financial support for marginalized communities. Hazarika said that development and inclusivity will be central to the party’s campaign. “Our vision is to create a Bodoland where youth have jobs, women have opportunities, and every village has access to basic facilities,” he stated.

Public Response Reflects Confidence in BJP

The turnout during the nomination filing has boosted BJP’s confidence. Supporters waved placards and banners, expressing optimism about the party’s ability to deliver. Several young voters said that stability and development are their priorities, and the BJP has earned their trust.

Party workers credited the leadership of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the central government’s focus on the northeast for BJP’s growing popularity. They claimed that the party’s inclusive policies resonate strongly with the diverse communities of BTR.

What Lies Ahead

As the BTC election campaign gains momentum, political activities are expected to intensify in BTR. The BJP has planned a series of rallies, public meetings, and door-to-door campaigns to connect with voters.

Hazarika urged people to participate actively in the polls. “This is your chance to choose peace and development. The BJP stands with every citizen of Bodoland,” he said.

With the nomination filing now complete, attention shifts to campaigning and alliance-building. The BJP aims to replicate its previous success, while opposition parties hope to reclaim lost ground. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the political direction of BTR.
