Assam CM: Kejriwal’s Defiance of ED Summons May Lead to Permanent Absence

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faces a fresh summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), marking the fourth such notice in the Delhi excise policy case. As Kejriwal continues to defy these summons, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his views on the matter, suggesting that persistent avoidance implies a desire for a permanent absence before the investigative body.

Kejriwal’s Ongoing ED Summons Saga and Accusations of Political Vendetta

Despite the summons, Kejriwal has maintained that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Centre is orchestrating a ‘political vendetta’ against him, employing central agencies to intimidate opposition leaders. The ongoing conflict showcases the intersection of politics and legal scrutiny.

In response to reporters’ inquiries, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma did not mince words, stating, “If you get four notices from ED and you are not going, this means you do not want to go temporarily, but want to go permanently.” The comment reflects the growing tension surrounding Kejriwal’s repeated non-compliance.

BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj Takes a Swipe at Kejriwal

Bansuri Swaraj, a BJP leader and daughter of the late Sushma Swaraj, criticized Kejriwal’s refusal to join the investigation, stating, “…It is shameful that CM Arvind Kejriwal is running away from an investigation…If you are honest, then you must join the investigation…The laws are equally applicable to all….”

Kejriwal’s Counter: Allegations of Political Motivation and Clean Record

In his defense, Kejriwal has consistently portrayed the ED’s actions as politically motivated, emphasizing the absence of any evidence of corruption despite numerous agency raids. Kejriwal maintains that the BJP intends to arrest him, highlighting his honesty as his primary strength and asset.
