Assam illicit liquor seizure in Dima Hasao district led to the recovery of around 1,015 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and the detention of two people. Police intercepted a vehicle during a checking operation after receiving specific information about the movement of an illicit liquor consignment.
The operation took place on September 29 near Choto Lalbong under Langting Police Station. Officials said the seized liquor was valued at around Rs 4.94 lakh. Police have started further investigation into the consignment and its intended route.

According to officials, police received information about illicit liquor being transported towards Maibang. Following the input, personnel intensified naka checking in the Langting and Maibang areas of Dima Hasao.
During the checking operation, police intercepted a Tata Yodha vehicle at Choto Lalbong. The location falls within Dima Hasao district and is listed as a village in the area.
Police then searched the vehicle. The search reportedly led to the recovery of 5,148 bottles and cans containing approximately 1,015 litres of IMFL.
The operation highlights the role of route-based checking in detecting the movement of illicit liquor. Police have not disclosed further details about the suspected destination or wider network linked to the consignment.
Liquor allegedly hidden under cattle feed
Officials said the liquor was allegedly concealed underneath cattle feed inside the vehicle. Police also seized 13 plastic bags containing cattle feed during the operation.
In addition, the Tata Yodha vehicle used to transport the consignment was seized. Two mobile phones were also recovered from the vehicle, according to the report.
The recovery of the liquor and other items will form part of the ongoing investigation. However, the detention of the two people does not by itself establish their guilt. Authorities are expected to determine their alleged roles through the investigation and applicable legal process.

The seized IMFL was estimated to be worth around Rs 4.94 lakh, making the operation a significant recovery for local enforcement authorities. The quantity involved also indicates that the consignment was being transported on a relatively large scale.
Police have not publicly provided details about the source of the liquor or whether it was intended for sale within Dima Hasao or elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the seizure comes against the backdrop of earlier enforcement action against illegal liquor trade in the district. In April 2024, Dima Hasao Police said several cases had been registered against illegal liquor traders and that six people had been arrested in those cases.
Investigation continues after vehicle interception
The two detained individuals are being dealt with according to law, officials said. Police have also begun examining the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the liquor.
The seized mobile phones could potentially assist investigators in establishing communication linked to the consignment. However, authorities have not released any findings from the devices.
Moreover, investigators may examine the vehicle’s movement and the source of the liquor as they pursue the case. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
