Guwahati: Indian boxing star Lovlina Borgohain, a Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, faced a heartbreaking defeat in her first international competition after a year-long hiatus, losing in the opening round at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool on September 4, 2025.
In an emotional statement on Saturday, the 27-year-old expressed her pain but reaffirmed her commitment to boxing, apologizing to fans for falling short.
“I never fight for anything else, only for my training,” she said, highlighting the lack of international exposure and sparring partners before the Paris Olympics, where she narrowly missed a medal.

Lovlina emphasized the importance of mental and physical strength, noting that inadequate training camps and coaching transitions, including the exit of coach Bhaskar Bhatt, impacted her Paris performance.
Despite giving her all, she felt unsupported in securing optimal training. “I stood alone,” she shared, questioning whether she should “keep training silently” after sacrificing for her country.
Undeterred, Lovlina promised a comeback, stating, “I will rise again. I will fight in any situation.”
Her resilience and passion continue to inspire as she eyes the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
