The Assam Rifles seized heroin worth over Rs 5 crore during an intelligence-based operation in Mizoram’s Champhai district on October 2. Security personnel also apprehended two Myanmar nationals during the operation.
The seizure took place in the Zote area after the force received specific intelligence about the transportation of narcotics.
According to officials, the operation led to the recovery of 2,537.72 grams of Heroin No. 4. Authorities estimated the consignment’s market value at Rs 5,07,54,400.
The Assam Rifles later handed over the seized narcotics and the two apprehended individuals to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Intelligence-Based Operation in Zote
The Assam Rifles launched the operation after receiving information about suspected narcotics transportation in the area.
Acting on the inputs, personnel intercepted two individuals in Zote. They then conducted a search that led to the recovery of the heroin consignment.
Officials identified both apprehended individuals as Myanmar nationals.
The force subsequently transferred the suspects and the seized contraband to the concerned department for further action.
Authorities will investigate the circumstances surrounding the seizure and examine possible links to drug trafficking networks.

The recovered substance weighed 2,537.72 grams and was identified as Heroin No. 4.
