Assault and Chilli Powder Attack on Youth in North Tripura

In a disturbing incident in North Tripura, a group of local youths assaulted 21-year-old Sagar Suklabaidya, a resident of Chandrapur village. The attackers not only physically harmed him but also subjected him to the cruel act of rubbing salt and chilli powder on his wounds. The incident took place at the Bir Bikram Institution playground in Dharmanagar subdivision.

Details of the Assault

Sagar, the victim, was taken to a local hospital for immediate treatment following the assault. The police claim that the motive behind the attack was an accusation that Sagar attempted to steal mobile phones from the accused individuals while they were engaged in a recreational activity. However, conflicting local sources suggest that Sagar had proposed to the sister of one of the accused, possibly triggering the assault.

Speaking to reporters, Sagar shared that he was assaulted by youths from different localities at the BBI complex in the morning. However, he could only identify two of the attackers.

The police have registered cases under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including wrongful restraint, wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons, and criminal intimidation (Sections 341, 342, 325, 326, 506, and Section 34). North District Superintendent of Police, Bhanupada Chakraborty, confirmed the filing of an FIR based on Sagar’s statement. One accused person has already been arrested in connection with the assault.
