Police Intercept the Vehicle

Acting on a specific tip-off, police stopped the vehicle at the Srirampore checkpoint. The vehicle carried the registration number AS 24A 2927. During questioning, all five individuals confessed that they had crossed the border illegally.

Claim of Religious Persecution

The four adults told police that they fled Bangladesh due to religious persecution. They said they were travelling to meet a relative, Prasenjit Debnath, who lives in Panisagar in the Unakoti district. Police are now verifying their claim and checking their possible support network inside India.

Identities and Legal Action

The four adults have been identified as Babli Debnath, Shukla Debnath, Badhan Debnath, and Sandip Debnath. All of them belong to the Itna police station area in Kishoreganj district of Bangladesh. Police arrested them and took them to the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s Court. The court sent them to judicial custody until December 20.

Minor Under Separate Care

The minor who accompanied them is receiving separate care as per legal procedures. Child protection authorities will decide the next steps.

Police Tighten Security Along Border

Tripura Police have increased surveillance along sensitive border areas. Officers said the latest interception highlights a rise in illegal infiltration attempts. They also noted that the Akhaura LCS remains a vulnerable and busy crossing point.

Further Investigation Underway

Investigators are now tracking the route taken by the group. Police are questioning the vehicle’s driver and checking if any local contacts helped them move within Tripura. Authorities have registered a case and will take further action based on the investigation.
