Big Bet of Congress-Left Alliance in Tripura, if Won, They Can Be Made CM

Just a day before the Congress General Secretary’s statement, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury also spoke on this issue. When the media asked questions about the chief ministerial candidate, he said that it would be decided by the MLAs after the elections.

Only five days are left for the Tripura assembly elections. Voting is here on 16 February. Just before this, the Congress and the Left alliance have made a big bet. The Congress has announced that if a coalition government is formed in the state, only a tribal face will be given the command of the state.

If the Left-Congress alliance wins the elections, a senior tribal leader of the CPI(M) will become the chief minister of Tripura. Let us inform that in Tripura, Jitendra Chaudhary is one of the big leaders of CPI (M) coming from the tribal community. Most of the discussion is going on in the name of Chaudhary.

This time Congress and CPI (M) are contesting elections together.

In Tripura last time i.e. in 2018 elections, BJP registered a historic victory. The BJP had ousted the Left-Congress, which was ruling for 25 years. The then BJP state president Biplab Deb, who was the hero of this victory, was made the chief minister of the state. However, in 2022, BJP handed over the command of the state to Manik Saha in place of Deb. Now the onus is on Saha to return the BJP to power.

However, political turmoil is continuing in the state for the last few months. On one hand, the BJP replaced Biplab Kumar Deb, who won in 2018, and made Manik Saha the Chief Minister, while many leaders parted ways with the party. A BJP leader joined Tipra Motha along with 6,000 of his tribal supporters in August this year. Many leaders are changing parties. Congress and CPM, who have always been bitter rivals of each other, have joined hands this time. Both the parties have announced to contest the elections together.

Yechury had said, CM will decide the MLA.

Just a day before the statement of Congress General Secretary, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury had also kept his point on this issue. When the media asked questions about the chief ministerial candidate, he said that it would be decided by the MLAs after the elections. Let us inform that this time senior leftist leader and Manik Sarkar is not contesting the elections. Due to this, new faces can now be promoted in CPI(M).
