Guwahati, Aug 25, 2025, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continues to be the first choice of voters in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region. He said people are looking for a national party that can ensure smooth coordination between Kokrajhar, Dispur, and Delhi.
BJP’s Growing Presence in BTC
During his recent address, Sarma underlined that the BJP has gained trust in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) because of its developmental agenda. He noted that residents increasingly believe that only a national party can guarantee long-term stability. And, effective governance.
“The people of BTC want progress, and they want leadership that can connect the region with both the state and the Centre,” Sarma said.
The Chief Minister emphasized that BJP’s policies are focused on inclusive growth. According to him, better road connectivity, education facilities. And, health services have boosted confidence in the party’s leadership.
Coordination Between Kokrajhar, Dispur, and Delhi
Sarma highlighted that voters in the BTC region no longer want fragmented politics. He argued that the demand is for seamless cooperation between the BTC headquarters in Kokrajhar. The state government in Dispur, and the central government in Delhi.
“This coordination is possible only under the leadership of a national party,” Sarma remarked. He added that the BJP has proved its ability to bridge this gap and deliver results.
Opposition’s Position in the Region
While the BJP is confident of its popularity, opposition parties such as the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and the Congress are preparing to challenge its dominance. However, Sarma dismissed their chances, pointing out that smaller parties often fail to align local aspirations with state and national priorities.
Political observers note that the BPF, which once enjoyed strong influence in the region, is struggling to regain its ground after losing power. Meanwhile, the Congress has been trying to build alliances but faces difficulties in connecting with younger voters.
Development as the Key Agenda
The Chief Minister credited the BJP-led government for major development initiatives in BTC. He mentioned road projects, infrastructure upgrades, and welfare schemes that have touched the lives of thousands of residents.
Sarma also stressed that security and peace in the region have improved under BJP’s leadership, which has encouraged people to place their faith in the party. “Without peace and stability, no development is possible. That’s what we have ensured in BTC,” he said.
Call for Unity and Support
Himanta Biswa Sarma urged voters to continue their support for the BJP, promising that the party will accelerate the pace of development in the BTR. Furthermore, he appealed for unity, saying that collective efforts are needed to make the region a model of growth in Northeast India.
