BSF Tripura Foils Smuggling, Seizes Contraband Worth ₹2.3 Lakh

The Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier reported multiple successful operations on 26 September 2025, in which its vigilant troops foiled several smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh border. The operations led to the seizure of cattle, ganja, and other contraband items worth ₹2.3 lakh, reaffirming the BSF’s commitment to safeguarding the international border and preventing illegal cross-border activities.

According to official sources, BSF personnel deployed at sensitive points along the Indo-Bangladesh border acted on timely intelligence and routine patrols, intercepting smugglers attempting to push illegal goods into Indian territory. The contraband seized included cattle and narcotics such as ganja, which were being smuggled across to Bangladesh.

The BSF stated that such seizures are part of its continuous efforts to counter smuggling networks that operate in border areas. These networks attempt to exploit the porous border, but the alertness and swift action of BSF personnel have repeatedly disrupted their plans.

Officials confirmed that the total value of the items seized during the 26 September operations amounts to approximately ₹2.3 lakh. The seized contraband has been handed over to the concerned agencies for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The BSF Tripura Frontier emphasized that the force is not only focused on preventing smuggling but also on strengthening overall border security to ensure peace and stability in the region. Regular patrols, coordinated surveillance, and intelligence-based operations are being carried out to minimize illegal activities along the 856 km-long Indo-Bangladesh border that Tripura shares with the neighboring country.

In recent months, BSF Tripura has intensified its crackdown on smuggling operations, particularly those involving cattle, narcotics, and contraband items. Such measures are crucial to curbing cross-border crimes, which have socio-economic and security implications for the border population.

The force also highlighted its ongoing coordination with local police and other enforcement agencies to ensure that smugglers are brought to justice. Joint efforts have helped in building strong deterrence against illegal trade and have provided a sense of security to border residents.

Authorities reiterated that the BSF remains fully committed to securing India’s frontiers and will continue to take strict measures against smuggling activities. The seizure on 26 September stands as another example of the BSF’s proactive role in combating illegal cross-border movements and safeguarding national interests.
