The President, who is on a two-day visit to Sikkim, said on Friday that these projects will help in the economic growth and development of Sikkim, especially in the tourism sector and will also increase employment.

She also inaugurated the 1.13-km-long Atal Setu, which connects Sikkim to the entire country via West Bengal. “This is a strategically important infrastructure for the country,” Murmu said.

She was received by Governor Ganga Prasad, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, top officials of the civil administration and the army at the Libing helipad earlier in the day. Murmu, who came on her first visit to the Himalayan kingdom, was given a guard of salute. The presidential convoy later left for the Raj Bhavan in the provincial capital.
