CM Manik Saha Highlights Implementation of New Criminal Laws to Ensure Justice for All

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday emphasized the importance of ensuring justice for all citizens in modern times by implementing the newly introduced criminal justice laws in India. Speaking at a workshop organized by the Home Department at Prajna Bhavan, Agartala, the Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to effectively roll out the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), and the amended NDPS Act.

These new legal frameworks officially came into force on July 1, 2024, replacing the 150-year-old colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC) with modern, citizen-centric, and technology-driven legislation.

State’s Home Department Takes the Lead

The Tripura Home Department is playing a proactive role in ensuring the smooth and effective implementation of these newly introduced laws, which aim to provide faster, fairer, and more transparent justice to citizens.

“These reforms reflect the evolving needs of our society and the increasing role of technology in the justice system,” CM Manik Saha said, adding that the state’s administrative machinery is fully aligned to adapt to the changes.

Focus on Training & Awareness

Addressing a large gathering of officials, law enforcement officers, and legal experts at the workshop, the Chief Minister underlined the importance of continuous training and awareness-building among law enforcement agencies and citizens.

“To ensure the successful implementation of these reforms, we must ensure that all stakeholders—from police officers to judicial staff—understand and apply the new laws efficiently and fairly,” Dr. Saha said.

New Laws: A Step Toward Timely and Transparent Justice

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) replaces the outdated Indian Penal Code and introduces provisions to make the legal process more efficient and citizen-friendly. The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) focus on enhancing security, ensuring rights for citizens, and improving the process of evidence collection and trial. The updated NDPS Act aims to strengthen anti-narcotics efforts across the country.

As India steps into a new era of legal reform, Tripura under CM Manik Saha’s leadership is taking confident strides to align with national objectives. The workshop at Prajna Bhavan serves as a model for how states can play a pivotal role in delivering timely and transparent justice.
