Drug Smuggling on NH-37 in Manipur: Four Kukis Apprehended with Heroin

The Manipur police executed a successful operation on Monday night, arresting four individuals involved in drug smuggling on NH-37. During the operation, 254.2 grams of high-quality heroin and four mobile handsets were seized on Monday night.

Krishna Sharma, Officer-in-Charge of the Special Mobile Unit at Jiribam police station, received intelligence inputs about four drug smugglers from the Kuki-Zo community. The police laid a trap at Phaiton Leingangpokpi village on NH-37 around 10:30 pm.

A Gypsy traveling from Imphal to Jiribam district headquarters was intercepted, leading to the discovery of 254.2 grams of heroin concealed in 30 soap cases of Myanmar origin beneath the vehicle’s seat.

The arrested individuals include Senminthang Haokip (41), Ngamkholang Haokip (35), Mistress Nengjahat Khongshai (37), and Mrs. Neikhohei Kipgen (45), all residents of Manipur’s Churachandpur district. The arrests were carried out in the presence of Executive Magistrate Moirangthem Devanda.

Under the NDPS Act 1985, the apprehended persons, seized drugs, mobile phones, and the impounded vehicle are now in the custody of the Jiribam police station for further legal proceedings.
