Echo Vehicle Hijacked on VIP Road Near MBB Airport, Passengers Robbed at Gunpoint

The VIP Road connecting Agartala town with Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport has emerged as a growing security concern after another shocking incident of hijacking and robbery. An Echo passenger vehicle from Sonamura fell prey to an armed gang on the stretch on Wednesday, raising fresh alarm over safety on the busy airport route.

According to police sources, the Echo vehicle had arrived at MBB Airport to pick up passengers who had booked the vehicle from outside the state. After collecting the passengers, the vehicle began its return journey toward Agartala town.

Armed Gang Stops Vehicle Near Kathaltali

As the vehicle approached the Kathaltali area along VIP Road, a group of unidentified miscreants intercepted it. The gang allegedly brandished firearms and forced the driver to stop. The attackers then took control of the vehicle and drove the four passengers and the driver to a nearby isolated jungle area.

There, the miscreants assaulted the victims and robbed them of cash and other valuable belongings. The gang later fled the scene, leaving the victims behind.

Complaint Filed at Airport Police Station

After securing their release, the driver managed to reach the Airport Police Station and lodged a formal complaint. The passengers also filed statements accusing the unidentified gang of armed robbery and physical assault.

Officer-in-Charge Sushanta Deb, who recently took charge of the Airport Police Station, assured the victims that he would personally oversee the investigation. He promised strict action against the culprits and efforts to recover the stolen money and valuables.

Rising Crime on VIP Road Raises Concerns

The latest incident has intensified concerns about safety along VIP Road, a crucial link between Agartala town and MBB Airport. Over the past few months, several criminal activities reportedly have occurred on this stretch, prompting calls for increased patrolling and stronger security measures.

Residents and regular commuters have urged law enforcement agencies to enhance surveillance, especially during late hours, to prevent further incidents. Police officials stated that they have begun investigations and are working to identify and apprehend the accused.

The shocking hijacking has once again highlighted the urgent need for tighter security along one of Agartala’s most important road corridors.
