Financial Challenges Plague TTAADC: Bubagra Pradyot Kishore Urges Additional Funds for Development

In a bid to address the developmental concerns of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Bubagra Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the leader of TIPRA Motha, met with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in September. The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s official residence, focused on critical developmental activities within the ADC areas.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government currently governs the state, TIPRA Motha has held sway over the TTAADC since 2021, emphasizing the council’s pivotal role in the region’s socio-economic progress.

Describing the interaction as cordial and non-political in nature, Bubagra Pradyot Kishore expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “We had a cordial conversation. It was not a political meeting. Discussions were done regarding developmental activities in the ADC areas. I gave him the list and he assured me to look into it.”

Debbarma further highlighted the pressing need for additional financial allocations beyond the existing Rs.82 crore allocated for salaries. “We got Rs.82 crores fund for salaries. But only salaries will not work. We asked for additional funds to do developmental tasks in the ADC,” he emphasized.

This is not the first time Bubagra Pradyot Kishore has engaged with CM Saha on issues concerning the tribal council. In May, the leader met with the Chief Minister to deliberate on the tribal council’s pending bill with the Governor and the financial challenges it faces.

Earlier, on September 30th, TIPRA Motha organized a 12-hour strike in the TTAADC areas across the state. The strike was a concerted effort to compel the Centre to address their demand for ‘Greater Tipraland,’ advocating for the rights and welfare of the indigenous community.
