In a devastating incident, a significant fire broke out in a residential area around Singjamei Chingamakha Liwa Lambi Ningthoujam Leikai under the Singjamei police station in Imphal West district, resulting from a gas cylinder blast. The incident caused extensive damage to properties and left two individuals injured.
Intense Blaze
The fire, which started around 11 a.m. on Friday amidst light rains, quickly escalated, engulfing the building owned by Oinam Geet, a 44-year-old renowned guitarist in the state. The blaze destroyed numerous items, including tons of paddy crops, furniture, household materials, and important books.
Upon receiving the information, the state’s fire services promptly responded with four fire tenders and necessary equipment. However, two gas cylinders had already exploded, intensifying the blaze and causing challenges for the firefighting efforts.
Injuries and Rescue
Two local volunteers, Waithom Pritam and Koijam Sanjoy, sustained injuries while attempting to extinguish the fire. They were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention. The firefighting operation lasted for approximately four hours before successfully bringing the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, according to sources from the fire service. The incident highlights the destructive potential of gas cylinder blasts and the importance of swift and efficient firefighting responses to mitigate the impact on lives and property.
