Goldsmith Injured in Shooting Incident Near Manipur University Campus

In a shocking incident on Saturday night, a 27-year-old goldsmith faced gunfire near the Manipur University (MU) campus in Imphal West district. The shooting occurred around 7:30 pm, specifically near the Catholic School located on the northern side of the MU campus, leaving the police puzzled as the motive remains unclear.

Victim Identified and Hospitalized

The victim, identified as Naorem Krishnadas, sustained injuries after unidentified miscreants opened fire, hitting him in the left thigh. Following the incident, Krishnadas was swiftly taken to RIMS hospital for immediate treatment. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to Shija Hospital for further care.

Krishnadas, hailing from Kakching Khunou village, situated approximately 60 km from Imphal, worked as a goldsmith at a jewelry shop in Waheng Leikai, Imphal city. He had been residing in a rented accommodation near RIMS Road for several years leading up to the unfortunate incident.

Investigation Ongoing for Uncovering Motive

Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the incident, aiming to discern the motive behind the attack on the goldsmith. The police have registered a case and are diligently following leads to identify the perpetrators and uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
