IIT Startup Collaborates with TRPCL for Green Energy Solutions in Tribal Areas of Tripura

The Tripura Rehabilitation Plantation Corporation Limited (TRPCL) has forged a memorandum of understanding with an IIT Bhubaneshwar startup to address the energy needs of tribal communities in Tripura. Additionally, the partnership aims to initiate sustainable livelihood projects in remote regions. TRPCL Chairman, Patal Kanya Jamatia, highlighted that this initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for efficient last-mile service delivery.

Jamatia emphasized the pivotal role of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in driving technological progress. He stated, “By directly applying this technology, we can create livelihood opportunities and cultivate a sustainable future for those residing in the state’s farthest corners.”

To begin, a thorough needs assessment survey will be conducted to identify the necessary technological interventions. Jamatia emphasized that this survey will serve as the foundation for their collaborative efforts. KARMA tech, the IIT Bhubaneshwar startup specializing in renewable energy, will lend its expertise to make technology accessible to rural communities, ensuring that no area remains without power connectivity.

In addition to renewable energy, the project places significant emphasis on generating sustainable livelihoods. Jamatia acknowledged the limited employment opportunities in tribal areas and emphasized the need to address this issue. The needs assessment survey will also explore avenues for improvement in this vital sector. Jamatia expressed confidence that technology and effective administration will work hand-in-hand to address challenges faced by rural communities.
