IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert for Tripura: Flash Floods, Landslides Possible

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Tripura over the next 48 hours. The warning follows the development of a low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining regions, which is slowly moving towards Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh. The system is expected to bring in significant moisture, intensifying rainfall activity over Tripura.

Districts on Alert

According to the IMD’s Agartala Centre, moderate to heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 cm is likely in the districts of Gomati, Sepahijala, and South Tripura. Isolated areas in South Tripura may receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, exceeding 12 to 21 cm, raising the risk of flash flooding and localized waterlogging.

In addition to intense rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected across various parts of the state. The situation could worsen if the low-pressure system continues to pull moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
