Guwahati: Kokrajhar’s forests and gardens turned vibrant this week with the sighting of the Indian White-eye, a small yet striking bird cherished for both its beauty and ecological role. Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary drew attention to the moment on Friday by sharing a captivating photograph taken by Bitupan Kolong.
The Indian White-eye, easily recognised by its bright yellow-green plumage and signature white eye-ring, is a favourite among bird lovers. Agile and swift, it thrives on nectar, fruits, and insects, often seen darting gracefully from one blossom to another.
Beyond its visual charm, the bird plays a vital role in pollination, ensuring the health and regeneration of forest ecosystems. Its cheerful notes add melody to the wild, making it a symbol of nature’s harmony.
In his post, the minister also stressed the need to conserve natural habitats, reminding people that even the smallest species play a big part in maintaining ecological balance.
