Manik Saha Blames CPI(M) for Violence, Cites Imported Mindset

Tripura CM Manik Saha says communist mentality, violence imported from CPI(M)

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha sparked political debate on Friday after stating that the state continues to suffer from a communist mentality inherited from earlier regimes. He said that acts of arson, terrorism, and aggression seen in recent incidents reflect the legacy imported from the CPI(M). His remarks came a day after the state witnessed violence targeting BJP workers at the TTAADC headquarters in Khumulwng. The issue has brought Tripura political violence back into focus, prompting discussions across political circles.

CM Saha Criticises Communist Influence in Tripura

According to an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office, Manik Saha criticised what he described as a lingering communist mindset in the state. He said that for decades, Tripura remained under a political environment shaped by the CPI(M), which normalised acts of intimidation and aggression. This mentality, he argued, continues to influence a section of people today.

The Chief Minister emphasised that violence, especially targeted political attacks, reflects behaviour that has been carried forward from earlier times. He said that the BJP believes in democratic practices and rejects any form of politics based on terrorism or threats. His remarks underscored the difference he sees between the state’s past leadership and the current government.

Saha added that the BJP has always prioritised peaceful dialogue. He stressed that political competition must not lead to fear and insecurity among workers and residents. While acknowledging that differences exist across parties, he said that the path of violence serves no purpose for the people of Tripura.

Visit to Affected BJP Workers at Khumulwng

The Chief Minister made these remarks while visiting the homes of BJP workers who were affected by the recent clash at the TTAADC headquarters in Khumulwng. According to officials, the violence took place on Thursday and involved workers of the Tipra Motha Party. Several homes and properties belonging to BJP supporters reportedly suffered damage.

During his visit, Saha met families who shared accounts of threats, property loss, and fear triggered by the incident. He assured them of full support from the government. The administration, he said, will ensure that those responsible for the violence are identified and dealt with strictly.

Local BJP leaders accompanying him mentioned that the victims were targeted because of political rivalry. They said the violence was unprovoked and intended to intimidate the party’s grassroots workers. The Chief Minister expressed concern over such attacks, saying that no political ambition should justify harming families or damaging homes.

His visit aimed to reassure the community that the government stands firmly with those affected. He instructed officials to take immediate steps to restore peace in the area. The Chief Minister also said that security forces would remain alert in sensitive zones to prevent further incidents.

Condemnation of Violence and Call for Calm

Manik Saha condemned the Khumulwng incident strongly, stating that such acts undermine the democratic spirit of Tripura. He reiterated that the BJP does not accept any form of political violence. According to him, the party’s approach prioritises development, stability, and public welfare, not confrontation.

He appealed to all communities to reject divisive behaviour. Political differences, he said, should be expressed through dialogue and debate rather than force. The Chief Minister encouraged people to support peaceful elections and governance, urging them to avoid being influenced by groups promoting hostility.

The incident has prompted discussions across the state, with several groups calling for better conflict resolution mechanisms. Community leaders stressed the importance of maintaining peace, especially in areas with mixed political support. They explained that sustained violence weakens developmental progress and damages trust among residents.

Saha’s remarks about a communist mentality have drawn reactions from political opponents as well. Leaders from other parties have argued that blaming earlier governments does not address present-day challenges. However, supporters of the Chief Minister believe that historical political culture continues to influence current events. The debate is expected to intensify as political activity increases across districts.

Government to Ensure Strict Action

The state administration has begun assessing the damage caused during the Khumulwng clash. Officials said that reports are being compiled and strict legal steps will follow after investigations. Police forces have been instructed to remain vigilant and prevent retaliatory incidents.

The Chief Minister emphasised that maintaining law and order is a top priority. He said that no political group will be allowed to disrupt peace or create fear among communities. His government, he assured, will continue taking action against those involved in violence, regardless of their affiliation.

Chief Minister Manik Saha’s remarks linking Tripura political violence to a long-standing communist mindset have reignited discussion on the state’s political culture. His visit to the homes of BJP workers affected in Khumulwng highlights the government’s focus on ensuring safety and accountability. As Tripura prepares for the months ahead, peace, dialogue, and responsible political conduct remain essential for maintaining stability across the state.
