Manik Saha Reaffirms Development Focus at Agartala Pond Project Inauguration

Manik Saha on Monday reiterated that the welfare and development of common people remain the top priority of the present government. He made the remarks while inaugurating the Pond Revival and Beautification Project at Ward No. 43 of Pratapgarh Rishi Colony under the Agartala Municipal Corporation.

Addressing a public gathering, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to visible and inclusive progress across the state. He criticised the opposition for allegedly ignoring the strides made in infrastructure and welfare.

“The current government truly believes in development. There is nothing but development for the welfare of common people. Unfortunately, the opposition cannot see Tripura’s progress,” he said, adding that critics were metaphorically “wearing black glasses.”

Project Completed on Time

Dr. Saha informed that authorities laid the foundation stone of the pond revival project in March 2024 and completed it within the stipulated timeframe. He said timely execution reflects the administration’s efficiency and dedication.

The project aims to improve local infrastructure, enhance water conservation, and beautify urban spaces. Officials believe such initiatives will contribute to better environmental sustainability and civic amenities in Agartala.

National Recognition During Amit Shah’s Visit

Referring to the recent visit of Amit Shah to Agartala, the Chief Minister said around 3,000 representatives from across India, including the Northeast, participated in a national programme. He claimed that the delegates expressed admiration for Tripura’s development.

Dr. Saha described Agartala as the “Gateway of Tripura.” Despite limited accommodation facilities, he said residents extended warm hospitality to visitors. Many delegates also explored tourist destinations across the state, showcasing Tripura’s cultural and natural attractions.

Boost Under Act East Policy

Highlighting the impact of Narendra Modi’s Act East Policy, the Chief Minister said the initiative has accelerated development in the Northeast. Improved connectivity and infrastructure have strengthened Tripura’s strategic and economic importance.

He pointed out that under the Amrit Sarovar initiative, the state has constructed around 682 ponds to conserve groundwater. According to him, this achievement has surpassed expectations and supports environmental sustainability.

Major Projects and Women Empowerment

Dr. Saha stated that in the past year alone, the government has launched or inaugurated projects worth over ₹1,300 crore. He said the administration’s vision is to uplift the last person in society by ensuring inclusive growth.

On women empowerment, the Chief Minister highlighted progress under the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative. He noted that Tripura has achieved nearly 95 percent of its target, aligning with the national vision recently reiterated by Nirmala Sitharaman.

Officials believe the scheme has strengthened self-help groups and enhanced economic participation among women across the state.

Focus on Urban Infrastructure

Dr. Saha also spoke about ongoing urban development initiatives. He said beautification projects are transforming Agartala, while work on the Eastern Ring Road has already begun. The state awaits approval for the Western Ring Road project, which aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity.

The event was attended by Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, South Zone Chairman Abhijit Mallick, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Director Megha Jain, AMC Additional Commissioner Mihir Gope, social worker Asim Bhattacharya, and other public representatives.

The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming that development, transparency, and timely execution will remain central to the government’s agenda as Tripura continues its growth trajectory.
