Manipur Government’s Stern Warning to Fraudsters Exploiting CMHT Scheme

The Manipur government has issued a strong warning to fraudsters illicitly availing themselves of the benefits under the Chief Minister Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) scheme. The scheme, encompassing Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), widows, and disabled individuals as eligible beneficiaries, is designed to provide essential health services to those in need.

Rampant Fraudulent Activities Detected

Reports indicate that some unscrupulous individuals, including government employees and those above the poverty line, have been fraudulently exploiting the CMHT scheme. To curb this abuse, the state health department has called on the perpetrators, considered master fraudsters, to surrender their cards by the end of December 2023.

CMHT Scheme: A Lifeline for the Needy

The CMHT-Manipur Health card, when presented at empaneled hospitals, facilitates cashless treatment for enrolled families. Beneficiaries can avail themselves of up to Rs. 5 lakh annually for secondary and tertiary healthcare on a floater basis. The scheme specifically targets AAY beneficiaries, widows, and disabled individuals, aiming to enhance their access to quality healthcare.

AAY: Combating Hunger and Ensuring Food Security

Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) is a government initiative focused on eradicating hunger and ensuring food security for India’s poorest citizens. The scheme aligns with broader efforts to uplift vulnerable sections of society and provide them with essential resources.

Additional Measures for Beneficiary Welfare

In a bid to further support beneficiaries, the Manipur government has introduced measures such as the distribution of free Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) rice. This initiative, set to continue from January 2024 to 2028, aims to provide uninterrupted monthly ration assistance to those in need.

Government’s Preparedness for Ration Distribution

Officials have reported that a substantial quantity of rice, totaling 45,410 MT, has been stocked at nine Food Corporation of India (FCI) depots. This stockpile ensures the seamless distribution of free ration to beneficiaries in Manipur for the next four months.

The Manipur government’s stern warning to fraudsters, coupled with ongoing efforts to streamline welfare schemes, underscores its commitment to protecting the interests of the most vulnerable members of society.
