Manipur Police arrested an alleged KYKL cadre in Imphal East and detained a man with around 3.5 kg of ganja in Imphal West. Police conducted the two operations separately, officials said. The arrests took place as security agencies continued operations against insurgent groups and illegal drug activities across the state.
The two cases involve different police units and locations. The first operation focused on a suspected member of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL). The second involved the Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) police and a suspected narcotics possession case.
Police Arrest Alleged KYKL Cadre in Imphal East
Imphal East commandos carried out the first operation at Khurai Laishram Leikai. The area falls under Porompat police station.
During the operation, police detained 22-year-old Kangabam Roshan Singh, also known as Korou. Singh lives in Khurai Laishram Leikai. Police identified him as an alleged active cadre of the KYKL.
The operation formed part of the security forces’ efforts to identify and apprehend suspected members of insurgent organisations operating in Manipur.
Police have continued to conduct intelligence-based searches across several districts in the state. These operations have targeted suspected insurgent cadres, weapons networks and alleged extortion activities.
The authorities have not publicly disclosed extensive details about the specific activities that led to Singh’s arrest in this particular operation. Further investigation will establish the nature of his alleged association with the KYKL.
Second Operation Leads to Ganja Recovery
Police conducted the second operation in Imphal West on September 27.
Personnel from the Narcotics and Affairs of Border police station carried out the operation in the North AOC area. During the action, officers detained 49-year-old Omprakash Anand Survana.
Survana reportedly comes from Thane in Maharashtra. Police found around 3.5 kg of ganja in his possession, according to the report.
The NAB unit has taken up the case for further investigation. Officers will examine where the suspected contraband came from and whether other people played a role in its transportation or distribution.
The recovery adds to the drug-related cases that Manipur Police have pursued through separate operations across the state.
Two Operations, Different Investigations
The two incidents remain separate cases. Police conducted them in different districts and involved different units.
The Imphal East case concerns the alleged membership of a banned insurgent organisation. The Imphal West case concerns the alleged possession of ganja.
Investigators will now gather evidence in both cases. They will also examine the circumstances surrounding each arrest.
The legal process will determine the charges and establish the facts of the cases. The allegations against the arrested or detained individuals remain subject to investigation and due process.
Security Agencies Continue Action Against Insurgent Groups
Manipur has witnessed continued security operations against insurgent groups in recent months. Police and other security agencies have carried out searches and arrests across several districts.
Earlier in September, security forces arrested three alleged KYKL cadres in an operation at Awang Leikinthabi in Imphal West. Police said the operation followed intelligence inputs that security agencies had corroborated. The forces also recovered four No. 36 hand grenades and four detonators during that operation.
Manipur Police have also reported other arrests involving members of different insurgent organisations. On August 29, a joint team of the Kakching commandos and Assam Rifles arrested an alleged KYKL cadre and an alleged accomplice in Kakching district. Officers recovered INSAS ammunition and tactical equipment during that operation.
These operations show the continuing focus of security agencies on suspected insurgent networks and illegal activities linked to such groups.
Manipur Police Maintain Focus on Narcotics
Alongside counter-insurgency operations, Manipur Police continue to target the illegal movement and sale of narcotics.
The state police have conducted several drug-related operations involving ganja, heroin and other substances. Official police records show multiple narcotics seizures during 2025-26. The department has also conducted anti-drug awareness programmes in schools, colleges, rehabilitation centres and other public spaces.
The Narcotics and Affairs of Border unit plays a key role in these efforts. Its operations focus on identifying drug trafficking networks and preventing the movement of illegal substances.
The recovery of around 3.5 kg of ganja in Imphal West therefore adds to the department’s ongoing narcotics enforcement work.
Investigation Underway in Both Cases
Police will continue their investigations into the two separate operations. The probe into the alleged KYKL connection will focus on Kangabam Roshan Singh’s suspected association with the organisation.
Meanwhile, investigators in the ganja case will examine the source and intended destination of the seized substance. They may also question the accused to determine whether the case involves a wider network.
Authorities have not indicated any direct connection between the two cases.
The latest operations underline the dual focus of Manipur’s law-enforcement agencies on internal security and narcotics control. Police continue to conduct targeted operations across the state based on intelligence and local inputs.
