In a shocking case of racial violence, four young people from Manipur — Thanreisem Shimrah, Solan Khamuiwo, Yureihor Kashung, and Ngachanwon Shaiza — faced a brutal assault and racial abuse on Wednesday night at Khar Danda, Mumbai.
Minor Mishap Turns Violent
The clash began when Solan Khamuiwo accidentally toppled a parked motorcycle while trying to sit on it. Soon after, over 10 local residents surrounded the group and started shouting at them. What began as a small misunderstanding quickly escalated into violence.
Eyewitnesses said the locals attacked the youths without warning, using both physical force and racial insults. They described the scene as chaotic and terrifying, showing how people from the North-East still face prejudice and hostility in many Indian cities.

Police Delay Filing FIR
Despite the seriousness of the attack, Khar Police have not filed an FIR yet. The victims submitted a written complaint and demanded quick action. They described how the attackers beat and abused them without provocation.
The slow police response has deepened the victims’ frustration. Activists claim that the delay exposes gaps in handling racial violence cases. Several North-Eastern student groups have urged the Mumbai Police to take immediate action and arrest the accused.
Racial Bias Still a Problem
Incidents like this continue to reveal widespread racial bias across urban India. People from the North-East often face mockery, exclusion, and verbal abuse despite living and working in metropolitan areas.
Community leaders have urged the government to enforce stronger anti-discrimination laws and ensure better police accountability. Without strict action, they warn, racial attacks will keep happening.
Victims Demand Justice
Speaking to the media, one victim said, “They beat us without any reason and insulted us using racist language. We only want justice.” The victims say the attack left them scared and humiliated.
Meanwhile, North-Eastern student associations in Mumbai have come forward to support them. They called for a speedy investigation and awareness campaigns to stop racial hatred.
No Official Police Statement
So far, Khar Police officials have stayed silent on the incident. Their silence has angered many citizens online, who accuse the authorities of ignoring racial violence. Many demanded that the police file the FIR immediately and take visible action.
Human rights groups have also asked the Maharashtra government to monitor the case closely. They believe that only a firm response can rebuild trust between the police and the North-Eastern community.
Need for Social Awareness
Experts say the attack highlights a serious social divide. They argue that police training and community education programs could help prevent such incidents. Although cities like Mumbai claim to be inclusive, the reality shows a persistent bias against ethnic minorities.
As the victims continue to seek justice, their case reminds India that equality and safety must extend to everyone, regardless of region or appearance.
