Many Refugees Fled from Bangladesh in Mizoram

Now a new problem has come in front of Mizoram. There are already thousands of refugees from Myanmar in the state and now more refugees have arrived from Bangladesh. What happened is that Bangladesh Army is engaged in action against an armed group of Chin-Kuki people community in Chittagong Hill Tracts. Due to this, 272 people of this community have fled to Mizoram’s Longtlai district.

The new influx of refugees comes at a time when the Mizoram government is grappling with over 30,000 refugees from Myanmar. They fled their homes following a coup by Myanmar’s military in February last year. The Chin-Kuki people and the Mizo people belong to the Zo community and they share the same culture and ancestry.
