Meghalaya Accelerates Healthcare Infrastructure
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma reviewed the Health Department’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to medical services.
The review covered new construction, upgrades and the expansion of healthcare facilities across Meghalaya. The government aims to bring more medical services closer to residents, particularly in areas that need improved healthcare access.

Several healthcare facilities are now nearing completion in different parts of Meghalaya. These include projects at Bajengdoba, Byrnihat, Mahendraganj, Raksamgre and Mylliem Umthlong, among other locations.
The state government plans to make these facilities operational by January 2027. The plan also includes the 100-bedded hospital at Resubelpara.
The new facilities will expand the availability of hospital beds and medical services across the state.
Over 600 New Hospital Beds Expected
The upcoming healthcare projects are expected to add more than 600 beds to Meghalaya’s government healthcare system.
At present, government hospitals across the state have around 7,000 beds. Therefore, the planned expansion will provide additional capacity for patients and reduce pressure on existing facilities.
The expansion could also improve access to hospital-based treatment in areas where residents currently need to travel longer distances for specialised or advanced medical care.
₹750 Crore Investment in Healthcare
According to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Meghalaya has invested around ₹750 crore in healthcare infrastructure during the past five years.
