Mizoram Police carried out a major anti-drug operation between March 25 and March 31. As a result, they dismantled several smuggling networks and seized narcotics worth ₹25.01 crore.
Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) H. Ramthlengliana confirmed the success of the অভিযান. He stated that police teams targeted key smuggling routes and acted on intelligence inputs. Consequently, the coordinated effort disrupted multiple trafficking chains.
First, on March 25, a CID (Special Branch) team intercepted a truck at Tuirial Bridge near Aizawl. The vehicle had travelled from Seiling in Saitual district. When officers searched the truck, they recovered 19.836 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth ₹15.86 crore.
In addition, the team seized a US-made handgun, two magazines, and 40 live rounds. Police immediately arrested the 23-year-old driver from Champhai district, which lies along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Next, between March 27 and March 29, police teams conducted three raids near Keifang in Saitual district. During these operations, they recovered 4.46 kg of heroin worth ₹8.93 crore from three vehicles.
Meanwhile, officers arrested five suspects in connection with these seizures. Among them were four individuals from Manipur and one from Assam. This pattern suggests the presence of an inter-state drug trafficking network.
Finally, on March 31, police carried out another operation in Aizawl’s Zembawk area. They detained two Myanmar nationals and seized 104 grams of heroin valued at ₹20.4 lakh.
Authorities have charged all eight accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Additionally, police have applied provisions of the Arms Act and Immigration-related laws where necessary.
Overall, officials emphasized that they will continue such operations. Furthermore, they aim to strengthen border vigilance and break drug supply chains in the region.
