The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 22.299 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth around ₹17.84 crore in two separate operations in Tripura and Mizoram. The NCB Agartala Zonal Unit and Aizawl Field Office conducted the operations on September 2 and 3. Officials arrested four people, including a Myanmar national, during the two operations.
The teams also seized a Yamaha motorcycle, a dumper truck and mobile phones linked to the suspected drug movement. The NCB is now tracing the sources, recipients and financial networks behind the consignments.

NCB Conducts Major Drug Operation in Mizoram
First, the NCB Aizawl Field Office launched an operation during the intervening night of September 2 and 3. The team worked with Serchhip Police, CID (SB) and Serchhip DSB.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the officials intercepted a Myanmar national identified as Lalpanliana in the Zokhawthar–Champhai sector near the India-Myanmar border.
During the operation, the team recovered 14.26 kg of methamphetamine tablets. Officials estimated the value of the seized drugs at around ₹11.41 crore.
The team also seized a Yamaha motorcycle that the suspect allegedly used to transport the drugs. In addition, officials recovered two mobile phones and other articles under the NDPS Act.
₹6.43 Crore Methamphetamine Seized in Tripura
Meanwhile, the NCB Agartala Zonal Unit carried out another operation on September 3.
Based on intelligence inputs, NCB officials intercepted a Tata Dumper/Tipper bearing registration number TR-05H-1813 on NH-8 near Bishramganj in Sepahijala district.
The intelligence indicated that the vehicle allegedly carried methamphetamine from Dharmanagar towards Julaibari.
After the vehicle reached Thakurchara in New Julaibari, officials unloaded its boulder load and conducted a detailed search.
During the search, the team found 8.039 kg of methamphetamine, including Yaba/WY tablets. The drugs were packed into eight packets inside a backpack placed beneath the co-driver’s seat.
The NCB estimated the value of this consignment at approximately ₹6.43 crore.
Three North Tripura Residents Arrested
Following the Tripura seizure, officials arrested three North Tripura residents.
The arrested persons are Junab Ahamed, Luthfur Rahman and Burhan Uddin. The NCB also seized the dumper truck allegedly used to transport the drugs.
Therefore, the two operations resulted in four arrests and the seizure of more than 22 kg of methamphetamine.
NCB Investigates Wider Drug Network
However, the investigation does not end with the arrests. The NCB is now working to identify the sources of the drugs, intended recipients and financial links.
Furthermore, investigators are examining the possible involvement of other members of the trafficking networks.
The operations also highlight the importance of intelligence sharing and coordination among central agencies and state police forces along the Northeast’s vulnerable border and transport routes.

At the same time, the NCB has urged citizens to help authorities fight drug trafficking.
