The Department of Physics at Michael Madhusudhan Dutta (MMD) College, Sabroom, in collaboration with the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Dharmanagar Chapter, and Government Degree College, Dharmanagar, held a one-day seminar on Thursday at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium. The theme of the event, “Approach Towards Affordable and Sustainable Lifestyle for a Green Earth,” encouraged students and teachers to rethink their connection with the environment.
Founded in 1914, ISCA continues to promote scientific research and education across India. Since the association organizes annual sessions in different cities every January, the Sabroom seminar added further momentum to its national outreach. Moreover, the event aimed to inspire young minds to adopt environmentally responsible practices.

Leaders and Experts Open the Seminar
Sub-Divisional Forest Officer (SDFO) Sri Kamal Bhowmik inaugurated the program. Along with him, Dr. Manik Bhattacharya and Dr. Suman Adhikari from Government Degree College, Dharmanagar, joined the event.
Keynote speaker Dr. Rita Roy, scientist at the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Tripura, addressed the audience. Dr. Anupam Guha, Principal of MMD College, presided over the program. Teachers from various schools in Sabroom, school students, and MMD College faculty and students also attended, making the seminar vibrant and engaging.
Talks on Conservation and Responsible Choices
During her keynote address, Dr. Rita Roy described several new developments in science and technology. She explained how people enjoy the planet’s resources yet often forget to conserve them. Therefore, she urged everyone to use resources wisely and become more conscious of their daily habits.
Following her speech, SDFO Bhowmik highlighted the importance of planting trees regularly. He further stressed that maintaining those trees with discipline ensures real environmental impact.
Additionally, Dr. Bhattacharya and Dr. Adhikari spoke about ISCA’s activities in the Dharmanagar Chapter. They explained how the association encourages scientific dialogue and why science and technology matter even more in today’s world.
Principal Dr. Guha reminded students about the urgent need to protect biodiversity. He encouraged them to stay aware, stay informed, and stay committed to environmental well-being.
Furthermore, Dr. Arup Patari welcomed the guests, while Dr. Dipankar Deb concluded the inaugural session with closing remarks.
Technical Session Highlights
In the second session, Dr. Rahul Saha and Dr. Biswajit Vaishnab from Dhamadeepa International Buddhist University, Sabroom, delivered special lectures. They explained the process of mushroom cultivation and showcased its economic and nutritional benefits. They also elaborated on how biodiversity conservation supports the balance of ecosystems.
To make the event more interactive, the organizers conducted a science debate and a quiz competition. Students participated enthusiastically and demonstrated impressive awareness of scientific issues. After the competitions, the winners received prizes, which boosted the overall excitement.
Retired professor Mrs. Mousumi Majumdar moderated the entire program smoothly. Her clear instructions and well-timed coordination ensured that every session ran without disruption. As a result, the event ended on an energetic and inspiring note, with students showing strong interest throughout.
