To accommodate the influx of pilgrims attending the Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has launched a special unreserved train service between Guwahati and Dalkhola. This initiative aims to provide comfortable travel options for devotees during the summer.
The special train, which began its service on June 21, is scheduled to run daily until the end of the Mela on June 25. This unreserved train has been designed to handle the high volume of pilgrims traveling to the revered Kamakhya Temple, ensuring they have a convenient and efficient mode of transportation.
NFR officials highlighted the importance of this service in managing the large crowds expected during the Mela. “Our goal is to facilitate safe and smooth travel for the thousands of devotees who come to Kamakhya Temple for the Ambubachi Mela,” said an NFR spokesperson. “This special train service is a significant step towards achieving that goal.”
The train departs from Guwahati at 6:00 AM and arrives at Dalkhola at 11:30 AM, with stops at several key stations including Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, and Kokrajhar. The return journey begins at 12:30 PM from Dalkhola, reaching Guwahati at 6:00 PM. This schedule ensures that pilgrims have ample time to visit the temple and participate in the festivities before returning to their destinations.
Pilgrims expressed their appreciation for the special train service. “Traveling to Kamakhya Temple during the Ambubachi Mela can be challenging due to the crowds,” said Sunita Devi, a pilgrim from Bihar. “The special train has made our journey much easier and more comfortable.”
The Ambubachi Mela, one of the most significant religious events in the region, attracts thousands of devotees from across the country. The festival marks the annual menstruation of the goddess Kamakhya and is celebrated with great fervor. The temple doors remain closed for three days during the festival and reopen on the fourth day, drawing large crowds of pilgrims who come to seek blessings.
NFR has also implemented additional measures to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers, including increased security personnel and medical facilities at major stations along the route. The launch of this special train service demonstrates NFR’s commitment to supporting religious and cultural events in the region and providing exceptional service to its passengers.
