The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has commenced a pre-feasibility study for a pump storage project in Tripura’s Longtharai Valley Sub-division, Dhalai District. This initiative is part of NHPC’s broader strategy to meet the rising power demands in the state, which have surged to 300 MW during peak hours and are expected to surpass 750 MW in the near future.

The proposed pump storage project aims to enhance the state’s power generation capacity by utilizing off-peak energy to pump water to a higher elevation, which can then be released during peak demand periods to generate electricity.
