A total of 25 women participants have joined the training programme. The group includes representatives from government departments and academia.
Among them, the Rural Development (Panchayats) Department of the Tripura government nominated 15 participants. The Office of the Director General of Police, Tripura, nominated seven participants.
In addition, three faculty members from NLU Tripura are also taking part in the programme.
Officials said this diverse participation reflects strong cooperation between government institutions and academic bodies. The collaboration aims to build effective community-based dispute resolution systems across the state.
Vice-Chancellor Highlights Importance of Mediation
NLU Tripura’s founding Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Pratap Singh, delivered the welcome address during the inaugural session. He described the programme as an innovative step to introduce mediation practices at the grassroots level.
According to him, training women community leaders in mediation can strengthen local leadership and improve access to justice. He also noted that mediation helps resolve disputes peacefully and reduces the burden on formal legal systems.
Prof. Singh stressed that empowered women leaders can play a key role in maintaining harmony within communities.
Expert-Led Training Sessions
Experienced mediation experts from AIIMAS, New Delhi, are conducting the training sessions. The programme combines theoretical learning with practical exercises.
Participants will study the principles, techniques, and ethics of mediation. Trainers will also guide them through real-life scenarios to build practical skills.
The programme includes interactive discussions, role-play sessions, and hands-on exercises. These activities aim to help participants gain confidence in managing disputes within their communities.
Organisers believe such training will help women leaders handle conflicts more effectively and encourage peaceful dialogue among community members.
Strengthening Legal Awareness and Community Outreach
Through this initiative, NLU Tripura has reinforced its commitment to community outreach and legal awareness. The university regularly conducts programmes that promote access to justice and public engagement.
Officials say empowering women leaders with mediation skills can create long-term benefits for local communities. These trained leaders can help resolve disputes quickly and prevent minor conflicts from escalating.
Such initiatives also support the broader goal of building peaceful and cooperative communities across the state.
Registrar Prof. Nachiketa Mittal delivered the vote of thanks during the inaugural session of the programme.
