Padma Shri Beni Chandra Jamatia Memorial Football Tournament 2025 Kicks Off in Amarpur

Amarpur, Nov 23: The Padma Shri Beni Chandra Jamatia Memorial Football Tournament 2025 began today at the Debbari SB School Ground in Amarpur–Debbari, organised by the Chubachu Foundation. The tournament aims to engage Tribal youth more deeply in sports and promote the message of a drug-free and HIV/AIDS-free society.

The event is sponsored by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, TTAADC Government, Swarnakamal Jewellers, the Tripura Tribal Research & Cultural Institute, ICA Tripura, Tripura state Aids Control Society and several other supporters.

A total of 20 teams from different parts of the region are participating this year, and the tournament is being held in a knockout format. Winners will be awarded attractive cash prizes, with the 1st Prize of ₹30,000 along with a Trophy, and the 2nd Prize of ₹20,000 along with a Trophy.

The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Amarpur MLA Ranjit Das, who praised the initiative for strengthening Tribal–Bengali unity and encouraging youth participation through sports.

Prominent guests present at the event included Swami Gaya Mani Jamatia of Santi Kali Ashram, Sarbong; members of the Padma Shri Beni Chandra Jamatia family, including Dr. Kahamnuk Jamatia; BAC Chairman Rabitra Jamatia; former Jamatia Hoda Kherpang Bishnu Sadhan Jamatia; and Village Chokdiri representatives.

Kamal Jamatia, Founder of the Chubachu Foundation, underscored the importance of guiding Tribal youth toward progress through education and skill development.

Speaking on the legacy of Padma Shri Beni Chandra Jamatia, Dr. Kahamnuk Jamatia said:
“We must preserve the legacy of our icons. Often, we forget their history and contributions. I am happy to join this event, and we must keep the work of our cultural icons alive.”

Padma Shri Beni Chandra Jamatia is widely celebrated for his lifelong efforts to preserve and promote Tiprasa culture, folklore, festivals, and traditional practices. A respected elder and former Garia Puja head priest, he played a crucial role in documenting and safeguarding the cultural identity of the Jamatia community.

With 22 teams vying for the title, the tournament is set to bring days of spirited competition and community participation.
