Political Crossfire: Assam Chief Minister Takes Aim at Rahul Gandhi

In a recent turn of events, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a direct shot at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, dubbing him as the “star campaigner for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).” Sarma, known for his assertive political stance, didn’t mince words when expressing his views on Rahul Gandhi’s leadership qualities, or rather, the perceived lack thereof.

According to Sarma, wherever Rahul Gandhi goes, the political landscape becomes favorable for the BJP. The Chief Minister criticized Gandhi for being uninspiring and arrogant, asserting that the Congress party loses ground wherever the former party president sets foot. Sarma went on to claim that Gandhi’s presence is a boon for the BJP, labeling him as their “biggest star campaigner.”

This public exchange of criticism is not new, as tensions flared during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra passing through Assam. The Congress MP targeted Himanta Biswa Sarma by branding him the most corrupt chief minister in the country. In retaliation, Sarma vowed that police cases would be filed against Gandhi following the Lok Sabha elections.

The friction reached a boiling point when Guwahati Police filed a case against Rahul Gandhi on January 22. The legal action stemmed from a clash between police and Congress party workers attempting to clear the path for the Yatra’s entry into Guwahati. The incident further fueled the animosity between the two political figures, with both sides engaging in verbal sparring and trading accusations.

As the political landscape in Assam becomes increasingly charged, this face-off between Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rahul Gandhi highlights the deep-seated rivalry between the BJP and the Congress. The war of words and legal actions taken suggest a heightened political drama that may continue to unfold in the run-up to future elections. Only time will tell how these clashes impact the political dynamics in Assam and the broader national landscape.
