TIPRA Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has urged the Tiprasa community to remain united and choose honest, educated and capable candidates for the upcoming Village Council (VC) elections in Tripura. Speaking through a Facebook Live on Monday, Debbarma welcomed the State Election Commission’s announcement of the elections.
He described the polls as an important opportunity for people to exercise their constitutional rights after a long gap. He also called on teachers, professors, retired officials, army veterans and other qualified people to contest. According to Debbarma, strong village-level leadership can play a key role in protecting community interests and promoting development.

Pradyot Kishore Calls for Tiprasa Unity

According to Debbarma, elected Village Councils should have a stronger role in deciding how village-level funds are used. He argued that such decisions should remain with elected representatives rather than MLAs, MDCs or political party leaders.
Debbarma Repeats Stand on Political Alliance
Debbarma also reiterated his position on any possible political alliance.
He said he would not form an alliance until the Tiprasa community receives the constitutional rights that he said were promised under the Tiprasa Accord.
He linked the issue to wider demands concerning land, political representation, funding and recognition of the community’s language.
Focus on ‘Thansa’ and 2028 Elections
Debbarma called for “Thansa”, or community unity, saying that unity should extend beyond electoral politics.
He urged the community to think about the future of the next generation and use the Village Council elections as an opportunity to strengthen its grassroots leadership.
He also suggested that the VC polls could send a message ahead of the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections that community interests should take priority over political positions, money and party affiliations.
Appeal to Young Tiprasa People
Debbarma particularly encouraged young and educated members of the community to participate in the elections.
He urged them to contest with a focus on long-term development rather than short-term political gains.
