The energy of innovation lit up the State Convention Centre as the Meghalaya government spotlighted youth innovation through a dynamic event under its PRIME Meghalaya youth entrepreneurship initiative. The program, which supports startups across the state, showcased inspiring ventures from young minds focused on sustainability, accessibility, and inclusive growth.
This year’s showcase sent a strong message: Meghalaya’s youth are not just dreaming, they’re building a better future—with support, strategy, and purpose.
What Is PRIME Meghalaya Youth Entrepreneurship?
PRIME Meghalaya youth entrepreneurship is a government-led program aimed at nurturing local talent, providing financial aid, mentorship, and infrastructure for startup growth. PRIME stands for Promotion and Incubation of Market-driven Enterprises, and it has helped over 500 startups since its launch.
Innovation in Action: Stories That Inspire
Several standout entrepreneurs took the stage at the Shillong event. Their ideas demonstrated how socially driven innovation can solve real-world problems—many unique to Meghalaya and the Northeast.
From Plastic Waste to Building Blocks
Nineteen-year-old Riban Marwein from West Khasi Hills captured attention with his solution to local waste issues. He founded a startup that converts plastic waste into eco-friendly bricks used in rural construction.
“Plastic isn’t waste if you know how to use it,” Marwein explained. “We melt and mold it into lightweight, durable bricks that are cheaper and greener.”
So far, he has recycled over 5 tons of plastic and constructed 10+ eco-shelters.
Building Mobility for All
Another success story came from Alem Nongrum, 27, who runs AbleMotion, a startup focused on wheelchair-accessible vehicles and hydrotherapy services. His venture serves people with disabilities in both urban and remote regions.
“Transportation shouldn’t be a luxury for anyone,” said Alem. “Our vehicles offer freedom of movement, while hydrotherapy restores mobility and mental health.”
With help from PRIME, his team has now reached over 200 clients across Meghalaya.
Government Support Is Driving Real Change
At the event, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering youth through entrepreneurship.
“We believe in our young entrepreneurs. Through PRIME, we provide the tools they need—whether that’s capital, mentoring, or exposure,” he said.
New announcements included:
- Expanded seed grants for early-stage businesses
- Launch of two new innovation hubs in rural districts
- Priority funding for sustainable and socially inclusive startups
Additionally, business coaches and startup investors hosted interactive mentoring sessions, further accelerating the momentum.

Entrepreneurs are now building ventures in:
- Sustainable tourism

This ecosystem is also encouraging private investors to look beyond traditional markets and invest in impact-driven ventures.
Real People. Real Impact.
More than just business growth, PRIME fosters community impact. Several ventures at the event demonstrated how economic progress and social equity can go hand-in-hand.
From upcycling waste to building inclusive transport, these young founders are proving that with the right support, Meghalaya’s youth can create sustainable, local solutions with global relevance.
“I never thought I could run a business before joining PRIME,” shared local entrepreneur Pynshngain Mawlong. “Now I want to hire others and grow my village too.”
Be the Next Success Story
PRIME Meghalaya youth entrepreneurship is more than a government scheme—it’s a movement. A movement where the youth lead with courage, creativity, and care for their communities.
If you’re a young innovator with a dream, Meghalaya is ready to back you.
