Red Alert in Tripura Over Possible Infiltration of Jaish-e-Mohammad Militants

The Tripura state administration has issued a red alert across the state, particularly along its 856 km-long international border with Bangladesh, following intelligence inputs about the possible infiltration of three Pakistani militants belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group.

According to official sources, the Union Home Ministry’s internal security wing had earlier alerted the Bihar Police and administration about the entry of three Pakistani nationals into India through Nepal. The militants have been identified as Hasnain Ali of Rawalpindi, Adil Hossain of Umrao Kote, and Mohammed Usmaon Rao of Bhawalpur in Punjab, Pakistan. Their photographs have been circulated to security agencies, and Bihar had already sounded a statewide alert, particularly in sensitive border areas adjoining Nepal and West Bengal.

Following this, the Home Ministry has instructed all states in the eastern and northeastern region to remain vigilant. Tripura, due to its porous border and history of infiltration from Bangladesh, has been asked to strengthen surveillance and tighten security measures.

Security agencies have expressed concern over Tripura’s vulnerability, as the state has often been used as a corridor for illegal migration and infiltration, including Rohingya elements. Allegations have also surfaced regarding the involvement of local traffickers and reports of collusion by some political elements who benefit financially from illegal cross-border movements.

The Union Home Ministry has reportedly emphasized the need to counter demographic threats posed by continuous infiltration, pointing out that successive governments in Bangladesh have failed to curb such activities. The current administration in Dhaka, facing criticism over India’s deportation drive of illegal settlers, has further complicated the situation, sources said.

In response, the Border Security Force (BSF) and state police have been placed on high alert, with additional patrolling and surveillance along sensitive stretches. Key infiltration-prone points under heightened watch include Kailasahar, Dharmanagar, Sonamura, Boxanagar, Belonia, and areas around the Agartala Airport police station jurisdiction.

The situation is being closely monitored by multiple central security agencies, with instructions to prevent any possible entry of the JeM operatives through Tripura’s vulnerable border stretches.
