Residents of Tirthamukh Protest Over Poor Mobile Connectivity Despite CM’s Promise

Residents of Tirthamukh in Tripura have protested against the government for failing to improve mobile network connectivity. They accused officials of ignoring long-pending promises and demanded immediate action to resolve the issue.

Frustration Over Unkept Promise

People in Tirthamukh have long struggled with poor network coverage. The problem worsens each January during the Tirthamukh Mela, which attracts thousands of devotees and tourists. Visitors often face difficulties connecting with family members or accessing digital services.

During the 2023 Mela, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha visited the area and promised that a stable mobile network would be set up by 2024. His assurance raised strong hopes among locals.

But as 2025 begins, the situation remains the same. The network continues to drop frequently, and people still cannot make clear calls or use mobile data properly. Residents said their repeated appeals went unanswered.

Locals Block Bridge in Protest

On Thursday morning, angry residents blocked the Tirthamukh Bridge to highlight their frustration. The blockade disrupted traffic and drew public attention to their long-standing problem.

Protesters carried placards and chanted slogans demanding the Chief Minister’s promise be fulfilled.
“In 2023, we were told the problem would end. Now it’s 2025, and nothing has changed,” said a resident. “We can’t stay silent anymore.”

They said poor connectivity affects communication, online education, and tourism. Many families cannot contact hospitals or authorities during emergencies, while students struggle with digital learning.

Connectivity Issues Affect Daily Life

Residents said poor mobile service makes daily life difficult. Tourists often avoid the area because they cannot use online maps, payment apps, or call for help when needed. This lack of connectivity has also hurt small businesses that depend on visitors.

Locals believe that better network coverage would bring growth, attract more tourists, and create new job opportunities. “We don’t need luxury,” said another resident. “We only want the same basic services others enjoy.”

Officials Visit and Assure Action

After several hours of protest, a team of senior officials reached the spot. They spoke with the residents and promised that work to strengthen the mobile network would begin soon.

Following the assurance, protesters withdrew the blockade but warned that they would resume their agitation if the situation did not improve soon. Locals said they wanted clear timelines and regular updates, not just verbal promises.

Residents Demand Accountability

Community leaders urged the state government to treat connectivity as a basic right. They said the issue highlights how remote areas continue to suffer due to uneven development.
“Good communication is essential for progress,” said a community representative. “We hope the government takes real action this time.”

Residents also called for a review of all pending infrastructure projects in rural Tripura. They said faster implementation could help bridge the urban–rural gap and restore people’s trust in the administration.

As Tirthamukh waits for improved network service, locals remain cautious but hopeful. Many said they would continue monitoring the situation and push for results until the promised network becomes a reality.
