Saikat Talapatra Apprehended by Tripura Crime Branch, Arrives in Agartala from Kolkata for Court Appearance

Saikat Talapatra, the alleged perpetrator of a sustained campaign defaming various political figures, including Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, has been apprehended by the Tripura police’s crime branch. Transported from Kolkata, Talapatra is scheduled to appear in court today.

Sources within the state police indicate that multiple cases have been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Talapatra for his baseless accusations against several prominent political figures. These include the incumbent Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, his siblings Ratan Saha and Tapan Saha, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, as well as other ministers like Ratan Lal Nath, ‘Tipra Motha’ chief Pradyot Kishore, former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, and numerous other VIPs.

According to insiders, the state’s crime branch and Cyber Cell had been monitoring Talapatra’s movements and whereabouts for an extended period. This operation was conducted under the guidance of a senior state police official with close ties to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Once confident of Talapatra’s location, a team from the Tripura police’s crime branch set out for Kolkata. They collaborated with officers from the Ghola police station in North Twenty-Four Parganas to apprehend him in the Muragachha area near Barasat, New Town.

“It has been observed that Talapatra frequently changed residences at night, likely in an attempt to evade police action. However, last night he was located in his rented accommodation in the Muragachha area,” stated an official source.
