Strengthening Security Measures in Manipur: Honoring a Fallen Hero

In a solemn ceremony, the Manipur government paid full state honors to the late special commando, Wangkhem Somorjit, who lost his life in a tragic gun attack by armed miscreants. The event drew the presence of high-ranking police officers, security adviser Kuldip Singh, state ministers, and MLAs, marking a collective tribute to the fallen hero.

Wangkhem Somorjit, a dedicated rifleman of the 6th MR attached to Special Commando Moreh, hailed from Malom Mayai Leikai under Imphal West district. The loss of this brave soul underscores the challenges faced by security forces in maintaining peace and order in the region.

At the sidelines of the ceremony, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam vehemently condemned the cowardly act, labeling it as a tragic incident. He expressed deep sorrow over the demise of two security personnel and called for swift action against the alleged perpetrators, described as Kuki-Narco terrorists. Konthoujam conveyed the government’s urgent appeal to the Government of India, urging prompt intervention to restore peace and tranquility in the state.

Addressing the need for enhanced security measures, Konthoujam announced that the Manipur government has taken proactive steps to bolster forces deployed in the Moreh area. Collaborating with central forces, additional security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety of both the local population and security personnel.

The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to combating such acts of violence and underlined the importance of collective efforts to safeguard the region. The tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by security forces in maintaining law and order in sensitive areas.

As Manipur strives for stability and peace, the memory of Wangkhem Somorjit remains a symbol of sacrifice and dedication. The government’s swift response in reinforcing security measures reflects a commitment to protecting its citizens and maintaining order in the face of adversity.
