Thoubal CDO arrests two in Manipur FIR case now

Two men were arrested by the Thoubal District Police’s Criminal Detection Organisation (CDO) and security forces in Manipur on October 20 in connection with a First Information Report (FIR) registered at Thoubal police station. The arrests followed a joint security operation in parts of Thoubal district.

The operation came amid an investigation into a recent clash in Khangabok village that reportedly left one person dead and several houses damaged by fire. Police have appealed for calm and urged residents to avoid spreading unverified information.

Thoubal CDO arrests two men in FIR case

The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Khursid Ahamad, 19, son of Md. Hassan, and Md. Abdul Rahaman, alias Apik, 45, son of late Md. Abdulhei. Both men are residents of Sangaiyumpham Cherapur in Thoubal district.

According to information released by India Today NE, the joint team arrested the two men on October 20 in connection with the FIR registered at Thoubal police station. However, authorities have not disclosed the specific allegations against either individual in the case.

The arrests followed a broader security operation involving personnel from Thoubal Police, the Rapid Action Force (RAF), CoBRA and the Assam Rifles. The operation aimed to conduct searches and verify identities in the affected areas.

Police have not provided further details about the evidence linking the two arrested men to the case. Therefore, the allegations remain subject to investigation, and the arrests do not establish guilt.

Thoubal CDO arrests follow extensive search operation

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo shared details of the operation during a press conference at the Police Headquarters.

According to the senior police officer, the joint team launched a combing operation in the Sangaiyumpham and Cherapur areas on Tuesday morning. Security personnel searched 146 houses and verified the identities of around 300 people during the exercise.

Four suspects were detained for verification. Of those, police formally arrested two in connection with the FIR.

Additionally, the team seized a double-barrel gun during the operation. Authorities sent the firearm for forensic examination, although officials have not disclosed further findings from the examination.

The operation involved several security agencies working together to support the investigation and conduct searches. However, officials have not released additional information about the remaining two suspects who were detained.

Khangabok clash under police investigation

The arrests come after a reported clash in Khangabok village under Thoubal police station. According to preliminary reports, the confrontation broke out around 11.30 pm on Sunday following an alleged stone-pelting incident near a ground where a concert was taking place.

The incident reportedly involved members of the Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities. Preliminary accounts indicated that a misunderstanding may have triggered the confrontation.

One person was reportedly killed during the violence, while several houses were said to have been set ablaze. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the events that led to the confrontation.

However, officials have not established a complete account of how the violence began. Investigators will need to examine the available evidence and statements to determine individual responsibility.

The reported loss of life and damage to homes have added to concerns about public safety in the area. Meanwhile, security personnel have continued their operations as authorities work to establish the facts.

Police urge residents to maintain peace

During the press conference, ADGP Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

He urged people not to take the law into their own hands. He also warned against circulating rumours or unverified information on social media, which could increase tensions during an ongoing investigation.

Moreover, residents were asked to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room. Such cooperation can help authorities verify information and respond to potential security concerns.

Police have not announced further arrests or disclosed additional findings from the investigation. Authorities are expected to examine the available evidence as they continue their inquiry into the FIR.

Thoubal CDO arrests mark another step in probe

The arrests of the two men represent a development in the ongoing investigation into the incident in Thoubal district. However, the full circumstances surrounding the reported clash remain unclear.

The joint operation involved house searches, identity verification and the seizure of a firearm for forensic examination. These steps form part of the authorities’ efforts to gather information and establish the facts.

For now, police have urged the public to remain peaceful, avoid speculation and allow the investigation to proceed. Further official updates may clarify the allegations, the role of those arrested and the circumstances that led to the violence.
