Agartala, India: The three-day Eastern Child Health Conference is set to begin today in Agartala, the capital of Tripura. The conference is being organized by the Tripura Branch of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) and will be held at the Hapania International Fair Grounds.
The conference will bring together pediatricians, child health experts, and policymakers from across the eastern region of India to discuss and address critical issues related to child health. The theme of the conference is “Advancing Child Health: Challenges and Opportunities in the Eastern Region”.
The conference will feature a series of plenary sessions, workshops, and panel discussions on a wide range of topics, including:
- Nutrition and child growth
- Immunization and vaccine-preventable diseases
- Early childhood development
- Adolescent health
- Child mental health
- Child protection
The conference is expected to be attended by over 500 delegates from Tripura and other states in the eastern region.

Child health is a critical issue for India, as the country has one of the highest under-five mortality rates in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 686,000 children under the age of five died in India in 2020.
