Emphasising women’s empowerment and the need for safe, dignified workplaces, Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy addressed a state-level training workshop on the SHe-Box portal in Agartala on Wednesday. The programme was held at Pragya Bhavan and attended by senior officials and representatives from various departments.
Understanding the SHe-Box Portal
During his address, Roy explained that the SHe-Box (Sexual Harassment electronic Box) portal was developed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The portal functions as a centralized digital platform for registering and monitoring workplace sexual harassment complaints under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013.
He stated that the recently upgraded version of the portal is more user-friendly and efficient. It allows better tracking of complaints from both organised and unorganised sectors. As a result, women can now access grievance redressal mechanisms more easily.
Moreover, Roy stressed that digital tools like SHe-Box strengthen transparency and accountability in complaint handling. Therefore, effective implementation of the portal is essential for ensuring safer workplaces.

Government’s Vision for Women’s Empowerment
Highlighting the broader national vision, Roy said that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, sustained efforts are underway to promote women’s self-reliance across India.
In Tripura, he noted, schemes under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) have sanctioned nearly ₹2,100 crore in recent years. These funds have supported skill development and livelihood initiatives for women. Consequently, thousands of women have gained opportunities to secure sustainable income sources.
The minister emphasised that economic empowerment and workplace safety must go hand in hand. Without secure working conditions, true empowerment cannot be achieved.
New Initiatives in Union Budget 2026–27
Roy also highlighted new measures announced in the Union Budget 2026–27. One of the key initiatives is SHE Marts (Self-help Entrepreneur Marts). These community-owned retail outlets will be operated by rural women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs).
Through SHE Marts, women will gain a direct platform to sell handicrafts, agricultural produce, and processed food items. Furthermore, the initiative builds on the success of the Lakhpati Didi programme, which aims to ensure an annual income of at least ₹1 lakh for rural women.
According to the minister, such schemes create sustainable economic ecosystems while promoting grassroots entrepreneurship.
Focus on Legal Compliance and Awareness
The workshop provided practical training to nodal officers, HR professionals, and members of Internal Committees. Participants learned how to register and track complaints through the SHe-Box portal. They also discussed legal compliance requirements for organisations with 10 or more employees.
In addition, sessions covered employer responsibilities in maintaining safe workplaces. Awareness modules helped participants identify various forms of sexual harassment and understand redressal procedures.
Roy stressed that capacity-building programmes are vital for effective enforcement of the law. Therefore, regular training and awareness initiatives must continue across departments and institutions.
Commitment to Safe and Dignified Workplaces
The minister concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to creating work environments free from fear, intimidation, and discrimination. He stated that collective responsibility is key to ensuring women’s dignity and safety at workplaces.
The event was attended by Jharna Debbarma, Chairperson of the Tripura Commission for Women, Special Secretary Tapan Kumar Das, and other senior officials. Together, they underscored the importance of strengthening institutional mechanisms to protect women’s rights and promote inclusive growth in Tripura.
