Transformative Development: Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor under PM-DevINE Scheme

In a significant stride towards holistic development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for the Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor on February 4 during his visit to Assam. This ambitious project falls under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North-East Region (PM-DevINE) scheme, a comprehensive framework aimed at fostering rapid progress in the North-Eastern states.

Officially named Maa Kamakhya Divyalok Pariyojana, the Kamakhya Corridor is poised to redefine the religious and cultural landscape of the region. With a budget allocation of Rs 498 crore, the project aims to elevate the infrastructure surrounding the revered Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, mirroring the successful model of the Kashi-Vishwanath Temple Corridor in Varanasi.

The PM-DevINE scheme, unveiled in the Union Budget 2022-23, embodies the government’s commitment to addressing the specific needs of the North-East Region. With an initial allocation of Rs 1,500 crore, the scheme is designed to complement existing Central and State Schemes by filling critical gaps in various sectors.

About Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor under PM-DevINE Scheme:

To administer the PM-DevINE scheme efficiently, an Empowered Committee has been established, chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region). This committee plays a pivotal role in screening, appraising, and recommending project proposals for implementation by relevant agencies. Its formation ensures the judicious utilization of allocated funds, promoting transparency and accountability in the development process.

The total approved outlay for the PM-DevINE scheme from 2022-23 to 2025-26 stands at an impressive Rs 6,600 crore. This substantial funding underscores the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in the North-East. The scheme operates on a collaborative approach, allowing states and other agencies to propose projects tailored to the felt needs of the region.

As the Kamakhya Corridor project takes shape under the PM-DevINE scheme, it symbolizes a transformative era for the North-East. Beyond infrastructure development, the initiative holds the promise of fostering economic growth, social progress, and cultural enrichment in the region.

Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor stands as a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to comprehensive and inclusive development in the North-East. As the PM-DevINE scheme unfolds, it is poised to leave an indelible mark, catalyzing positive change and propelling the region towards a vibrant and sustainable future.
